- How ion exchange works
- A resin bed exchanges calcium and magnesium for sodium or potassium ions. When the resin is saturated it is regenerated (backwashed).
- What softening is not
- Softening is not a treatment designed to purify drinking water. It does not address organic chemicals, most heavy metals or biological contaminants.
